How to Turn Your Patio or Yard into the Perfect Outdoor Dining Area

Designing the Ultimate Backyard Kitchen

There’s something special about cooking a meal and enjoying it outdoors. If you’ve always dreamed of having a home with a backyard kitchen or grilling area, why not start planning out your space? Chances are good that your family is still spending more time at home than usual thanks to the pandemic, making it the perfect time to dive into this project. Below, learn how to create the ultimate backyard dining area at home.

Choosing Your Outdoor Kitchen Space

Some people are blessed to have a large backyard that’s already perfect for building an outdoor kitchen. But if you don’t, this shouldn’t stop you from getting creative or exploring other options. An inviting dining area can still be created in a small space. Alternatively, you might consider looking at new homes that already have the perfect setup for outdoor cooking. Working with the experts from at Prominus is the easiest way to find an ideal home.

Features to Include

Once you know where you’re going to put your outdoor dining area, you can start dreaming up designs and picking out the furniture and gear you want. If you don’t have one already, you may wish to build a deck to accommodate a table and chairs. Outdoor furniture will stay cleaner if it’s not left in the grass, and it’ll also be easier to maintain your lawn. Alternatively, interlocking deck tiles can instantly add class to your patio or backyard.

From Simple Grills to Full Backyard Kitchens

Next, you’ll want to think about how to prepare your food outside. If you don’t want to dive into a complicated project, simply getting a nice grill will give you somewhere to prep delicious food outdoors. However, outdoor kitchens can be much more extravagant if you want. Installing a kitchen with built-in appliances or a bar will instantly class up your backyard. Before you take on a project like this, consider the work involved and decide whether you want to take the DIY approach or hire a pro.

No matter how simple or elegant your cooking area is, you’ll want to create a relaxing place to enjoy your meals outside. There are countless types of outdoor dining sets, so it will be easy to choose one that fits your aesthetic.

Elevate Your Outdoor Dining Experience with Clean Water and Ambient Lighting

To take your kitchen up a notch, you may also want to buy a water filter system so you and your guests can enjoy fresh, clean and great tasting water outdoors. A good system will be able to remove contaminants and bacteria, as well as compounds like chloramine.

For the final touch, enhance the atmosphere of your dining area with nice lighting. Nothing kills the mood more than dining under a backyard floodlight. Instead, achieve a soft lighting look by hanging string lights, using rope lights in your landscaping or putting solar lights along your walkways.

Using Your Outdoor Space

Building an outdoor dining oasis takes a lot of work. To make sure you get the most use out of your space, plan out some recipes that are perfect for preparing outdoors. Many foods are perfectly suited for grilling, and this is an opportunity to try something new.

Depending on where you live, you might also want to think about bug control. Mosquitoes and other pests can instantly ruin a nice evening outside. Planting herbs like basil and lavender can help repel bugs, but you might also want to take other measures to keep pests at bay. Keeping your grass short and removing standing water can help a lot.

Building a dining area on your patio or in your backyard takes a bit of work, but it’s well worth the effort. Having an outdoor dining area is the perfect way to get your family outside more often. Not only that, eating outside can encourage your family to spend more quality time together away from phones and the TV. Moreover, having a nice outdoor seating area can even make your home more appealing to buyers if you put your house on the market in the future.
